London England!

Well, I never thought in a million years that I'd ever be blogging from a train station at 3:30am in London, England.... But I'm here, and have an unusual amount of energy, so I figure: why the hell not blog!

Anyways, Peggy and I made our flight from Dublin to London with ease and showed up in this lovely city around 9:30 pm 2 days ago. Unfortunately it took us an additional 2 hrs to take a train, subway, and eventually walk to our hostel- which was incredibly hard to find considering that it was 11:30 pm, super dark, raining, and that we were exhausted.

After having a midnight snack of doner kebab (my absolute favorite food that's readily available all throughout Europe and super cheap) we got a map, and decided on a schedule that would allow us to see as much of London in 1 day as humanly possible..... And I believe we did just that!

After waking up at 8am we quickly got ready, and headed down to enjoy our complimentary breakfast. At breakfast Peggy and I decided that we would try to eat on the smallest budget possible so we could spend more at clubs and restaurants in Rome and Spain. So we started out our money scrounging techniques by taking a bunch of the free nutella packets offered at breakfast.

The minute we had finished our breakfast, Peggy and I bolted out the door headed for our subway station called the Underground. When we arrived downtown we whipped out our schedule and started going down the list of all the places we had to see.

The exit from our underground station literally spit us out right in the most beautiful spot on the Thames river where we had a great view of the London Eye, and Big Ben. We then started walking to parliament square when we realized that we were going to miss the changing of the guards! So we sprinted as fast as Peggy's little legs could run down Parliament road, headed for bucking ham palace and with incredible luck we ended up running right into it!

Once we had our fill of British music and men in funny hats we continued
down parliament road, stopping to take pictures with guards who don't move, admiring the beautiful architecture, and taking photos in telephone booths.

Once we arrived at the Buckingham palace we found no way to enter the main area with the fountain, but we saw people over there, so just decided to climb over a little wall-barrier.

Buckingham palace turned out to be outrageously beautiful and we spent quite a bit of time there. However, we had to keep moving because we were getting behind on our schedule; so we took a stroll through st. James park, bought an ice cream cone, and boarded the underground headed for the famed Camden Market.

At the Camden market, we moseyed around hopping from shop to shop seeing everything from t shirts, to marijuana flavored candy, to fake Beats headphones to tattoo stands (real tattoos)... It wasn't the classiest of markets, and it was rather sleazy, but the Pegsters and I both had a fun time looking at all the stuff- wishing we had more room in our bags for souvenirs.

After the Camden market Peggy and I walked to a street vendor where we bought fresh strawberries for £2 and then to a supermarket where a baguette costs only 55 pence and a pizza only £2.50.

We headed back to the hostel and on the way got 2 free poweraids from some stranger handing them out to people.. I initially said no to the offer, but figured it looked pretty safe considering they had a badge... We had a late lunch back at the hostel where we made strawberry and nutella sandwiches costing us only £2.55!

We then headed back downtown to view London's iconic Tower bridge and walk along the banks of the Thames river.

After returning we made our pizza, enjoyed some more strawberries and got free pasta from some girls who made too much. That meals total was about £2.50 and really hit the spot! Overall we spent only £5 on food which translates to roughly $7.50.... Or $3.75 per person... WIN!

After dinner we did some logistics for our trip and headed to bed early so we could wake up at 2am to catch a bus to catch a train to make our 6:00am flight at our small airport way outside of London.

As I type, we are chilling on our train, getting excited for what's ahead of us in Venice!

Ciao,
Michael and Peggy.

Dublin, Ireland

Well, the Pegsters and I finally made it to Europe! Following a pretty easy plane ride full of wine, pasta, and sleeping medications the Peganator and I arrived in Dublin pretty exhausted. After running into a door at customs and setting off an alarm, we boarded a bus for the beautiful city of Dublin.

After getting lost for a while, Peggy and I found a friendly old man who could give us directions to the hostel.....which turned out to be just about a block away. Once we arrived, Peggy and I put our backpacks in our locker and headed out to explore the city- which by the way is not at all what we were expecting.

Dublin happens to be an incredibly beautiful city full of old stone buildings with beautiful architecture wedged between ultra modern buildings. The city is full of statues, bridges, fountains, and the greenest grass we have ever seen. The air in the city is so fresh and full of wonderful smells from the sea, markets, cafes, and perfume stores.

To make it even better, the streets are full of loud, cheerful Irish people who are more than willing to help with directions and give advice on where to go. On most street corners there are also musicians. One musician in particular was so entertaining that Peggy and I sat on a bench and watched him for an hour. This one man sang, played guitar, and drummed with his feet belting out everything from Edward sharp and the magnetic zero covers to the Kooks!

After getting an earful of some awesome street music, Peggy and I decided that we wanted to sample some authentic Irish cuisine. We headed to a cafe that we had spotted earlier in the day and ordered beef stew and Guinness. It was great and exactly what we needed considering Dublin is only about 55 degrees and we were getting pretty chilly. Seeing as the majority of places we are going will be warm, Pegsta only packed tank tops and 1 sweatshirt so she wore about 7 layers and was still cold...

After lunch, we returned to the hostel where we checked in and took a nap. What was supposed to be only a 15 minute nap ended up turning into an hour and a half nap, but it was much needed.

Following our Nap Peggy and I explored the town some more, taking in all of the beautiful churches, Dublin Castle, street performers, etc. We had dinner around 8pm and it consisted of lamb meat and bread. It was delicious and we raved about it the rest of the night.

We then walked around some more through the temple bar district and returned to our hostel around 9:30 pm. Unfortunately when Peggy and I got back to our room our key card didn't work.... So I went down to the front desk and got a key. But once we got into our shared 16 bed room we found other backpackers' gear in our beds. I returned to the front desk again and was told I booked our stay for the wrong night and didn't have a room for night. So after paying an additional 38 euros on top of our initial 18 euros we got new beds in a different room..... Bastards! So essentially we paid 3 times the amount we had originally planned for the room!

The next morning we woke up and went to talk to the manager who basically told us to bug off so we decided to just let it go and move on.... But in a small act of retaliation, we refused to pay for towels to shower and used all the bed sheets. HAH!

After having a light breakfast and talking with some other hoselers, we once again set out to explore the city. We spent the majority of today walking around, watching more street performers and eating fish and chips in a box for 4 euros called a 'cod box'.

Anyways, now we are relaxing in the hostel lounge, which is an old converted wine cellar in the basement, before we make our way to the airport for our 7pm flight to London! Hopefully we won't run into anymore costly problems!

Ciao,
Michael and Peggy
